Shamana Yoga Nidra

beyond sleep journeys

Shamana Yoga Nidra sessions are developed from nearly 30 years of my own sustained practice in Hatha Yoga & Yoga Nidra. Sessions follow a specific, traditional, scientific method adapted to our modern life levels of awareness by Swami Satyananda Sarasvati, from a Tantric Yoga practice known as Nyasa.  I gently employ his time-honored & trusted method to lead clients into a state of mental, emotional & physical relaxation.  The “state” of awareness, into which one enters during the guided meditation practice, is known as Yoga Nidra or Yogic Sleep.

Yoga Nidra is a well-researched method, used in present day holistic psychology to help individuals naturally bring about life habit changes & symptom reduction, enhancement of sensory, cognitive & learning processes, & harmonization of their inner nature with the stresses of the outer world.

When the state of Yoga Nidra is entered on a regular basis, we may become effortlessly aware & observant of our conscious, subconscious & unconscious mind simultaneously.  This Nidra, or specialized sleep state, occurs within Turiya, a Sanskrit word which describes a fourth state of consciousness, manifesting beyond our everyday waking, dreaming, & deep sleep states.  A Sankalpa, or setting of intention solely by the client, is invoked at 2 specific points within each guided session.  This allows each individual to begin & sustain a natural, inner connection & dialogue through layers of their own consciousness, without external pressures.

As a prelude to each Yoga Nidra session, I share a sample of the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic Medicine, surrounding simple, daily ways to help you enter states of deep relaxation & sound sleep. I often teach the special care of relevant Ayurveda Marma, or energy release points, associated with the Central Nervous System, to accompany your guided descent into the warmth & peace of Yoga Nidra.
